What is Yoga and How do you define this?

The term ‘yoga’ is contrived from Sanskrit language which means to accumulate. The aim behind celebrating international yoga day is to escalate awareness among the throng which can easily be influenced through the significance effects of yoga from a health perspective. It holds essence to improve an impeccable balance between our materialistic and spiritualistic approach of well being. It emphasises on the importance of expedition at work force.

Yoga is an art of ancient times to formulate our physical, mental, and spiritual health.  Practice of Yoga improves aplomb, health in both ways mentally and physically, thought process, energy, mood, and prowess to the people through which several activities can be done in a better way. Yoga is a vast subject and practising it is not only limited to India but also prevalent across the world.

Practising yoga is a state of serenity which helps you to be calm, carefree, relaxed, balanced, flexible, enthusiastic. Yoga has been practised in multiple forms to improve various genres of dance and will be used in the future to improve health conditions as several solutions are already there but research is still going on to cure-all types of disease and it has also become an option in educational grounds. It is embedded before vedic time in India approximately 5000 years ago and it emphasises on practising meditation on a daily basis in order to accomplish a healthy and strong living.

The supreme science of life has been served in the form of Yoga. Yoga has also contributed to the development of mankind. It is very significant to know why we should choose June 21 as the International day of Yoga, and not any other day. Actually June 21 is the summer solstice and it will be impactful for a good beginning. A summer solstice is the longest day of the year, marking the start of summer with the early sunrise and late sunset for the northern hemisphere. This time is also considered as the start of Yogic science.

Influence of Yoga:

International Yoga Day

It was universally accepted, on December 11, in 2014. The United Nations (UN) Announced June 21 as the International Day of Yoga through resolution 69/131.

The resolution of Yoga Day was introduced by India when first and last it was proposed by PM Narendra Modi while addressing the 69th session of the General Assembly where he said: “Yoga is a magnanimous gift for mankind to lead a good life. A holistic approach is precious to our health and our well-being and it is also acknowledged by 175 other member states.

In the words of a prominent practitioner, the late B. K. S. Iyengar, “Yoga fosters the ways to maintain a balanced attitude towards life and enhances all skills to perform better”.

Theme of International Yoga Day 2023:

The theme of International Yoga Day 2023 is “Yoga for Unity.” This promotes the capability of bringing people together and to make them more aware. It emphasises that yoga has become a worldwide appeal that energises you. There’s no disparity of age, gender, nationality, and cultural barriers. This year PM Narendra Modi is leading the event of the celebration of International Yoga Day from the United Nations.

The subject for IDY 2023 this year, “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” by Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, “One Earth, One Family, One Future.” Our ethos and socio-cultural fabric are woven around Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which has served as the Indian heritage is sufficient itself.
