Hindi Diwas 2023: History, Importance, and Significance:-

Every year Hindi Diwas 2023 is being celebrated across all over the India on September 14 and Hindi Department of all the organisations organise fifteen days workshop named as “Pakhwada” in which people participate in the activities for instance; essay writing, poetry, hindi drama, shayari competition, speech competition, hindi quiz competition, slogan writing, story telling, Rajbhasha gaurav Award etc.  

Our motto of celebrating Hindi Diwas is to elevate the level of Hindi among both common and noble people and make people aware about the language that it is one of our official languages and we also commemorate Hindi Diwas as it was opted on 14 september 1949 when our constitution was being made. 

In 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India recognised and adopted Hindi Language that is being written in the Devanagari script as our official language.

History of Hindi Diwas

Struggle of Hindi Language has been continued from the earlier days of the Indian Independence movement. In 1910 groups of hindi scholars and activists formed the Hindi Sahitya Sammelan to promote the use of Hindi as a national language but according to the Article 343 hindi with english got the recognition as an official language for the further 15 years.

This sammelan has played a major role in the promotion of Hindi. It increased the use of Hindi in schools, news agencies, and channels etc. 

September 14, 1949 – Historic Date

On September 14, 1949 post independence hindi with english was implemented as an official language of theUnion government. This step was being taken to promote and develop Hindi that unites the diverse linguistic and cultural regions of the nation. The very first time, Hindi Diwas was commemorated in 1953.         

Hindi is being implemented as an official language by nine states. There are some rules being implemented by the Union government in regard to using the languages. Initially fourteen languages were listed in Part 17 of the Indian Constitution and now the number of the languages listed in the constitution is twenty-two.

It is said that with diligence and efforts of Beohar Rajendra Simha, along with Hazari Prasad Dwivedi, Maithili Sharan Gupt, Kaka Kalelkar, and Seth Govind Das, Hindi got the recognition as an official language. It first happened on Beohar Rajendra Simha’s 50th birthday and to have illustrated the original manuscript of the constitution of India.        

Significance of Hindi Diwas:

Celebrating Hindi Diwas every year brings and motivates us to practise the cultural diversities and richness of India. It also makes us realise the importance of Hindi Language and how it connects all of us together as we know that communication is the key and language is its medium. This day is also an honour for us to promote the use of Hindi with multilingual fabrics of India.

Now, Indians are spreading all over the world and using their official language Hindi as it is the 3rd most spoken language in the world after English and chinese. It is observed that 528 Town Official Language Implementation Committees have been formed and In abroad, TOLICs are being established at London, Singapore, Fiji, Dubai and Port-Louis amongst others.
