Guru Nanak Jayanti also popularly known as Gurpurab, is an auspicious occasion for Sikh or Punjabis as Guru Nanak Dev (1469-1539) is their first Guru and founder of Sikhism. He was born in 1469 at Nankana Sahib now part of Pakistan. Lets Know More About Guru Nanak Jayanti 2023
This year, we will mark Guru Nanak Dev’s 554th anniversary on November 27, 2023. Always, it falls on the full moon day of kartik month according to the Nanakshahi calendar.
GurPurab is celebrated with a lot of reverence and enthusiasm as it fills us with great energy across the world. Gurudwaras are embellished with lights and devotees come to light the candles and show their gratitude.
This feeling is wonderful and no word can define it properly. Devotees gather in gurudwaras and recite & listen to sacred hymns or gurbani performed by Granthi (a priest of Gurudwara). This day, we also organise proper meals (Prasad), also known as Langar which symbolise the fact of sharing happiness & brotherhood with other communities.

First of all we wish you the best wishes of GurPurab as it is one of the significant occasions for Sikh. Guru Purab calls for a spiritual gathering in gurdwaras and recites gurbani from the holy scripture of Sikhism “Guru Granth Sahib”.
This day, we promote the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev for instance; equality, unity, selfless service, faith in god, goodness, and humanity etc these are the core doctrines of Sikhism.

Guru Nanak Jayanti 2023: History and Significance
Guru Nanak Dev was born in 1469, at Talwandi Nankana Sahib in Pakistan. His parents are Tripta and Kaluram ji Khatri and he wed Sulakhani Devi, & their children are named as follows; Shri Chand ji and Lakhmi Chand ji.
Guru Nanak Dev is famously known for enlightening people’s wisdom to be a good human first and laid the foundation of Sikh religion. This day we celebrate all of his achievements and teachings so that we can enlighten our world as well.
In the fifteenth century, Guru Nanak had become the leader of Sikh community. Estimated 974 hymns or gurbanis for Guru Granth Sahib are composed by Guru Nanak. Guru Granth Sahib, a holy scripture of Sikh, is the compilation of his teachings as an ultimate, powerful creation to enlighten the lives.
What are The Rituals of Gurpurab?
Guru Nanak Jayanti or Gurupurab, is a significant day for Sikh community and also they perform some rituals on this occasion. Devotees organise kirtan processions, engage themselves in religious activities, read the Guru Granth Sahib and discuss the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev.
Devotees also organise Langar Sewa in which they provide meals to all the people & encourage the brotherhood. Through Gurbani recitation, prayers and ardas, we show gratitude for the love we are receiving from everywhere.
