G20 Summit 2023: Who Will Attend and Who will Not? What’s Open and What’s Closed in Delhi?

The G20 comprises twenty countries such as Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States and the European Union who will attend the meeting of G20 Summit 2023 for two days, will host the event India.

The capital city is set to host the G20 Summit for two days on September 9 and September 10. This weekend leaders from 20 countries are anticipated to attend the conference for G20 Summit 2023.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said this G20 Summit will be historic for India as it is going to be attended by the largest number of leaders across the world. It is expected that over 40 leaders will take part in the summit this year. Preparations are heavily going on for the upcoming event.

List of Leaders Participating in G20 Summit 2023?

US President Joe Biden will travel to India between September 7 to September 10 to attend the conference. Biden will discuss global issues including clean energy transition and combating climate change which will alleviate economic and social impacts of the Ukraine war, and increase the capacity of multilateral development banks. 

Spokesperson from Chinese Foreign Ministry Mr. Mao Ning informed that Premier of the State Council Li Qiang will attend the 18th G20 Summit.  But President of China Xi Jinping will not attend the G20 Summit 2023 meet in New Delhi.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will attend the conference of G20 summit 2023. According to reports, Sunak will discuss trade negotiations of UK-India in a separate bilateral meeting with Narendra Modi during his visit.

Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, will not attend the G20 Summit in Delhi. But Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will attend the summit.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol will attend the G20 Summit. South Korea’s ambassador to India Chang Jae Bok said  this month.

French President Emmanuel Macron will attend the G20 Summit 2023. As per the sources, Macron will be staying at Claridges hotel in New Delhi.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed that he is coming at the G20 Summit. And we ensure that the world is going to stand with Ukraine,” Trudeau said.

Australian PM Anthony Albanese will visit India to take part in the G20 Summit and will discuss his three-nation tour. 

President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan will attend the G20 Summit. After this, Erdogan will attend the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.

Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina will attend the G20 Summit 2023 in New Delhi, according to reports.

President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky will not take part in the G20 Summit in New Delhi as he is not invited to attend the summit.

Others haven’t updated yet about their attendance in G20 Summit such as Argentina, Mexico, Japan, Italy, Germany, Indonasia, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa.

Some “guest countries” include Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, UAE, Oman, Bangladesh, Egypt, Mauritius, and Nigeria will also attend the conference.

Under India’s presidency, the G20 Summit is scheduled on September 9 and 10 and the theme will be “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” or “One Earth · One Family · One Future”

What’s Open and what’s Closed in Delhi Amid G20 2023?

During the G20 Summit on September 9 and 10, Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi will be closed. Bhikaji Cama Place, Dhaula Kuan, Khan Market, and Janpath, are considered as sensitive areas, still markets won’t be shut, movement will be regulated.

Food and other delivery services won’t be allowed in the New Delhi area during the G20 Summit. However, essential services like grocery stores, ATMs, and medical stores will inevitably open in the considered zone.

The Metro services will be functional in the capital city. But some routes will remain shut during the G20 Summit for instance; Bhikaji Cama Place, the Moti Bagh, Munirka, RK Puram, IIT, and Sadar Bazar Cantonment metro stations. All the theatres and restaurants in the restricted area of New Delhi  will be closed. Temporary traffic will be regulated for dignitary movements.
