As per the reports, the Maldives government suspended three deputy ministers and maintained distance from trending derogatory posts on social media controversy instigated over his visit to Lakshadweep islands.
On Saturday over the PM’s visit to lakshadweep islands, supporters of Bharatiya Janata Party had proposed to visit Indian islands instead of other foreign countries. Also, they replaced Maldives with other Indian destinations. This projection has turned into a controversy on social media.
Response of Maldivian government officials:
In response to those supporters, most of the members of Maldives government including three suspended MPs, had posted a riposte which condemned our PM Modi and behaviour of supporters.
Due to this, Bollywood celebrities started mayhem and posted tweets. The reason why they will not visit Maldives islands is that officials have insulted the Prime Minister of India & other indians supporters.
“This controversy took place the same day the President of Maldives, Mohamed Muizzu went on a 5 day visit to China.”
On Sunday, the Maldivian government issued a statement “The Government of Maldives was not aware of derogatory remarks on social media platforms against foreign leaders.” These opinions are personal and do not represent the views of the Maldivian Officials statement issued by the foreign ministry.
These statements in posts show the freedom of expression and it must be exercised in a democratic world, in a way to not spread abhorrence, negativity, and obstacles in political friendship between the countries.
After a couple of hours, the information has been spreaded among reporters in Male that three ministers are suspended due to derogatory remarks. These three are serving as deputy ministers in the ministry of youth, Malsha Sharif, Mariyam Shiuna and Abdulla, and Mahzoom Majid.
Although no official statement has been made by the president’s office regarding the suspension, which restricts them to represent the government, so it is not considered as suspension, how long it will be.
“Our high Commission in Maldives showed their concerns for the appalling language used for PM Narendra Modi by Maldivian government officials, stated in the sources.
Maldivian Officials guilt for this disregard:
- He urged President Mohammad Muizzu to maintain distance from commenting and giving assurance to India to not make changes in govt policies due to controversy.
- Former president, Ibrahim Solih also tweeted, in this tweet he condemned the Maldivian Officials for not using this callous language as India and Maldives are friends. It impacts the old-age friendship of two countries for no reason.
- The Maldivian democratic Party would remind us that their appalling actions can have negative consequences that could affect the lives of our beloved people.
- A. Faris Maumoon, also condemned the government for not having any acknowledgment of responsibility, but government officials have the right to intervene in policies. Maldives – political loyalty cannot have priority over the interests of the country,” he posted on X, platform.
Ahmed Mohamed, former ambassador of Maldives’ ambassador of India, stated that mayhem over Narendra Modi’s visit turned into a rage on social media.
He also demonstrated the language used by Maldivian government officials as “unimportant and minute”. They must be accountable for their contentious statements. And we have to focus on maintaining amiable relations with neighbouring countries” added Mohamed.
